Restoration works at Customs House – Completed
Restoration works at Customs House completed
Essential roof restoration works at Brisbane’s Customs House to repair natural wear and tear were completed in November 2024.
Recognising the building’s important history, the works were overseen by specialist heritage architects and approved by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.
The aged copper dome was replaced in sections with a new copper dome. Over time, the copper will change colour as it is exposed to the elements and develops a green ‘patina’.
The original ornaments on the copper dome and lantern timber windows were restored, and new flag poles installed.
